Winter is just around the corner, and with the dawn of the season comes the return of one of Chicago’s favorite cold weather pastimes—ice skating at the Maggie Daley ice ribbon.
The beloved looping ice rink is preparing to open its doors next month, marking the unofficial start of winter in Chicago. But when exactly is opening day and when can you visit over the course of the season?

When does the ice ribbon open for the season?

The Maggie Daley Ice Ribbon will officially open on Friday, November 14. From there, the ribbon will be open daily during designated session times.
Here’s a look at the 2025 session schedule:
- Monday – Friday (non-holiday)
- 11am – 1pm
- 2pm – 4pm
- 5pm – 7pm
- 8pm – 10pm
- Saturday & Sunday
- 8am – 10am
- 11am – 1pm
- 2pm – 4pm
- 5pm – 7pm
- 8pm – 10pm

When do reservations open?

Reservations will open on a rolling basis for various dates:
- Monday, November 3, 2025: Dates – November 14-November 30
- Monday, November 17, 2025: Dates – December 1-December 11
- Monday, December 1, 2025: Dates – December 12-January 4 (Holiday Season)
- Monday, December 22, 2025: Dates – January 5-January 18
- Monday, January 5, 2026: Dates – January 19-February 1
- Monday, January 19, 2026: Dates – February 2-February 15
- Monday, February 2, 2026: Dates – February 16-March 1
- Monday, February 23, 2026: Dates – March 2-March 8 (Closing Day)
How much does a visit cost?

Making a reservation for the Maggie Daley Ice Ribbon is free, but guests pay to rent skates.
Here’s a look at skate rental rates:
- Skate Rental Monday-Thursday (Non-Holiday) – $17 online | $19 walkup
- Skate Rental Friday-Sunday & Holidays – $21 online | $23 walkup
Guests who bring their own skates can enjoy one free session, with a $5 fee for any additional visits.
