Magnificent Mile’s Annual Light Festival Phenomenon Kicks Off This Weekend

Chicago is about to be lit.

Sunday, November 22 is the day folks. The day that over one million lights will begin illuminating The Magnificent Mile for the holiday season. The stretch of Michigan Avenue between Wacker Drive and Oak Street is one of the most magical places to embrace the festive cheer with more than 200 glistening trees offering a phenomenal spectacle in the heart of Chicago.

This year exciting performances will once again precede the moment the lights are switched on but, as with most of our beloved annual events, this one too will go virtual. The live parade has long been a huge attraction across the States. According to the festival’s Chairman Gail Spreen the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival “is the third-largest parade in the country, televised in over 91 percent of the United States.

This year The Magnificent Mile Association, along with BMO Harris Bank and Walt Disney World Resort, will kick off the holiday season with an hour of dazzling performances starting at 6 PM on Sunday, November 22. ABC 7’s Cheryl Burton and Alan Krashesky will host the special celebration that is once again scheduled to air in more than 90% of the country.

Exciting performances will be joined by several Disney surprises before the evening is capped off with the climactic illumination of  Chicago’s Magnificent Mile’s wonderful treeline.
