It’s a sad day for the Viagra Triangle: Lou Malnati’s, the iconic flagship restaurant known for its delicious pizza, will be closing its doors permanently after 15 years.
The beloved Gold Coast location announced last week that this will be its last month, with the last day on Tuesday, June 30.
According to NBC Chicago, the sudden closure is due to the new building owner’s decision not to renew the restaurant’s lease, as they plan to redevelop the site.
Lou Malnati’s to close its Gold Coast dine-in service after 15 years
Julie Younglove-Webb, Lou Malnati’s chief executive officer, said:
We consider the Gold Coast location a flagship pizzeria, and it is unfortunate that we must temporarily close our dine-in and carryout service in that area.
However, we remain fully dedicated to serving the neighborhood through delivery while we secure a permanent new home for a full-service restaurant in the near-north area.
The company has already begun identifying alternative sites in the area, including the possibility of a location within the new development at 1120 N. State.
Additionally, Lou Malnati’s will continue to offer delivery service to the Gold Coast through a temporary kitchen operated by the same team.
