Lollapalooza 2026 is here and street closures are underway in and around Grant Park for Chicago’s largest music festival.
Whether you’re heading to the festival this weekend or have other plans around the city, you may be wondering how the closures will impact your commute.
Here’s everything to know.
Street closures in effect through August 9
Multiple downtown throughways will be closed to traffic now through August 9. Streets closures and dates are as follows:
- Balbo from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive – July 15 through August 9
- Jackson from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive – July 21 through August 8
- Balbo from Michigan to Columbus – July 27 through August 3
- Jackson from Michigan to Columbus – July 27 through August 3
- Columbus from Monroe to Roosevelt – July 27 through August 3
- Columbus (NB, center lanes), from 13th Street to Roosevelt – July 27 through August 3
- Congress Plaza Dr from Michigan to Columbus – July 27 through August 3
- Monroe from Michigan to DuSable Lake Shore Drive – July 27 through August 3
Drivers should anticipate increased traffic and longer commute times when passing through downtown this weekend.
Getting to the festival
City officials encourage Lollapalooza-goers to utilize the Chicago Transit Authority to get to and from the festival grounds.
The CTA provides convenient access to all entry gates via the following train stops:
- Clark/Lake – Blue, Green, Pink, Orange, Green, and Brown lines
- State/Lake – Red line
- Washington/Wabash – Brown, Orange, Green, Pink lines
- Adams/Wabash – Brown, Orange, Green, Pink lines
- Harold Washington Library/State and Van Buren – Brown, Orange, Pink lines
- Roosevelt – Red, Orange, Green lines
