Red Pandas just might be some of the cutest critters one can encounter during a trip to the zoo—and the Lincoln Park Zoo just added another to its furry family!
Just in time for the Chinese Lunar New Year, the LP Zoo has welcomed a second resident red panda from the Prospect Park Zoo in NYC.
Here’s everything to know about the fluffy four-legged friend and when you can visit him!
Meet Qi, the LP Zoo’s newest panda pal

Qi (pronounced chee), a 7-year-old adult male red panda is the newest addition to the zoo’s Pepper Family Wildlife Center.
The copper-colored critter is currently adjusting to his new home, and getting to know his habitat mate Nisha.
The LP Zoo acquired Qi as part of the Red Panda Species Survival Plan, an initiative which supports red panda populations at zoos across the US.

Red Pandas are native to portions of east Asia and the Himalayas, dwelling in bamboo forests throughout mountainous regions.
Deforestation poses a major threat to the animals, making population support programs all the more necessary.
With Qui’s arrival, the Lincoln Park Zoo hopes that he and Nisha will produce cubs in the future, helping the species to thrive.

“Red pandas are an endangered species, so the potential for cubs from Nisha and Qi is particularly exciting,” said Curator Cassy Kutilek.
“In the meantime, it’s been fun for staff to get to know Qi’s personality, and we’re glad to share that he’s already settling in and exploring his new habitat.”
Guests can visit Qui now as he makes intermittent appearances in his new habitat. Click here to learn more information and plan your next visit to the zoo.
