If you missed the first three Supermoons of 2024, tonight is your last chance to catch a glimpse of the spellbinding celestial phenomenon.
The November full moon, known as the “Beaver Moon” will begin its ascent late Friday afternoon, and reach its highest point by midnight.
A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest orbital point to Earth during a full moon, according to NASA.
Tonight’s full moon is the fourth consecutive Supermoon since August. While last month’s Supermoon was the closest of the year, tonight’s Beaver Moon is still poised to deliver some spectacular stargazing.
Unfortunately for Chicagoans, today’s forecast shows gray overcast skies carrying into the evening, but there’s still a chance the moon will peak out from beyond the clouds.
The Supermoon is most visible in areas with limited light pollution. We recommend heading to the Adler Planetarium or another lakefront destination to get the best view.
