Bookworms in Chicago, we’ve got some news you’ll want the hear—the largest Barnes & Noble in Windy City history is set to open in the Loop this summer.
Here are all the details we have so far and how soon you can visit the new store.
Largest Chicago Barnes & Noble coming to State Street
Barnes & Noble will open its biggest-ever local storefront at 150 N State St. this summer, at the site of a former Old Navy location.
The massive bookstore will cover 30,000 square feet, according to a report and video shared by NBC Chicago.
An exact opening date for the storefront is pending, but NBC’s video shows supplies lining the sidewalk outside of the new store on Wednesday, July 15.

Google maps also shows a profile for the storefront, which may indicate an opening date is right around the corner.
The State Street store is one of four Barnes & Noble locations opening throughout Chicagoland in 2026 as the brand undergoes a major expansion.
Additional Barnes & Noble stores have popped up across Chicago in recent years, most notably a sprawling outpost in Wicker Park at the historic Noel Street Bank Building.
