Chicago could get up to three inches of snow Monday as cold air moves moves across a comparably warmer Lake Michigan, an all too familiar weather phenomenon known as the “Lake Effect.”
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Cook County effective until 4pm Monday.
Scattered snow and freezing rain will occur before 12pm, with more consistent snow showers following in the afternoon. The NWS predicts an 80% chance of precipitation, with little ice accumulation expected.
All in all, Chicago could see a daytime snow accumulation of anywhere from 1 to 3 inches according to the NWS.
The total accumulation could rise as scattered snow showers may continue overnight.
The rest of the week will be relatively uneventful on the snow front, but make no mistake, it’s going to be cold.
Temperatures will remain well below freezing for much of the week, with an average daytime high of around 27 degrees.
