Chicago’s first La Michoacana Plus opened on West 26th Street this month. Offering up paletas, mangonadas, and michelaguas alongside other fresh treats. Edith Galvan and Angelo Villagomez decided to open a franchise in Little Village that’s different from the rest.
Transporting the popular ‘La Michoacana Plus’ franchise from California, this iteration is different from the ones you’ll see around town bearing the same Michoacana name as it’s part of a bigger franchise.
As the first location is the first in the midwest, owners Edith Galvan and Angelo Villagomez wanted to give something back to the community.
They’re doing just that as the colorful shop, which is known for its bright interiors, is quickly becoming an after-school hangout. With dozens of ice cream and paleta flavors to choose from, the shop is quickly filling up with customers looking for delicious arroz con leche, abuelita chocolate, tres leches, or mango con chile to try. There are other snacks, like hot Cheeto elote and nachos to choose from!
There are also agua frescas with fruit and chamoy (called a michelagua) and nieve flotante (which is agua fresca with a scoop of ice cream) and so many other flavorful options to enjoy. La Michoacana Plus is open from Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
