It’s never fun when your bladder unexpectedly gives out, and you need to find the nearest restroom. It becomes even more frustrating when you have to purchase something just to enter.
While Chicago does have public restrooms, they are often a bit unkempt and carry an unpleasant stench; however, that is about to change.
According to BlockClubChicago, a self-cleaning public restroom is set to be installed in Wicker Park this year, following requests to improve bathroom access in the city.
A ‘self-cleaning’ high-tech toilet is coming to this busy intersection
This will be the city’s first standalone automated restroom and will be located at the Polish Triangle, which is at the intersection of Milwaukee, Ashland, and Division, above the Division Blue Line station.
The project is being supplied by JCDecaux, a company that provides street furniture such as bus shelters and other services to the city.
While ChicagoBlockClub reported that there are no specific details about the toilet model that will be installed or how it will operate, some self-cleaning models used in other parts of the world feature two toilet bowls: one that is pre-cleaned and ready for use, and another that spins behind a wall to be cleaned for the next user.
The hope is that it will officially be installed later this year.
