Are you a regular speeder? You might not like what Illinois lawmakers have in store for you.
According to NBC Chicago, lawmakers are discussing legislation that would require chronic speeders to install speed-limiting devices in their vehicles. Under the proposed House Bill 4948, an “Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA)” program could be implemented in the state starting in 2028, specifically targeting so-called “super-speeders.”

This program would mandate that drivers who incur two qualifying speeding or reckless driving offenses within 12 months install a speed-limiting device that prevents them from exceeding the speed limit.

The program would specifically target individuals who have multiple speeding violations in a year, as well as those whose licenses have been revoked for reckless driving or aggravated reckless driving.
Under the proposed house bill, if a person commits several infractions within the specified year, their driver’s license would be automatically suspended, and they would receive a restricted license until they fulfill the requirements of the ISA program.
Virginia and Washington have already enacted similar laws, and Illinois doesn’t seem that far behind.
