The countdown to glühwein, gingerbread, and holiday shopping is officially on—because one of Chicagoland’s favorite winter traditions is making its return.
Christkindlmarket opens Friday, November 20, bringing its German Christmas market magic to three locations across Chicago and the suburbs. The best part? All three markets are free to visit. (Your holiday shopping budget can thank us later.)
Chicagoland’s favorite German Christmas market opens November 20
This year marks a milestone for the flagship Daley Plaza market, which celebrates its 30th season. Meanwhile, Aurora’s RiverEdge Park location returns for its fifth season, and Wrigleyville’s Gallagher Way market is back for its eighth.
Know before you go
Expect tiny, candy cane-striped huts filled with handcrafted ornaments, gifts, and traditional German treats, plus hot drinks to keep you warm as you browse.
One tip before you go: bring some cash. In previous years, organizers have encouraged visitors to bring cash because many vendors don’t accept credit cards.
The Daley Plaza and Aurora markets will stay open through Christmas Eve. Over in Wrigleyville, the festivities continue through New Year’s Eve, with the market closed on Christmas Day.
