Brr… it’s cold out there! An ice storm is expected to continue in Chicago tonight after the day’s cold and rainy atmosphere.
Counties around Chicago are being impacted as the Chicago area deals with freezing rain, ice, sleet, and high winds up to 35 MPH. These conditions are expected to follow into tonight.
The National Weather Service says these conditions are likely to result in hazardous driving conditions. Earlier in the day, officials warned of slippery travel conditions due to freezing rain in areas along with the possibility of power outages and downed trees.
According to the National Weather Service, an ice storm warning has also been issued in McHenry County, with a note that “significant icing” can be expected as ice and sleet buildup can get to half an inch.
A winter weather warning has been issued in Northern Cook, Lake, Kane, and DeKalb counties, with the weather advisory remaining in effect until tomorrow at 6 a.m. Parts of Wisconsin will also see an Ice Storm Warning until noon on Thursday.
