A major winter storm system will affect much of the Midwest this weekend, bringing heavy snowfall to parts of Illinois.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of downstate Illinois, with areas south of I-74 predicted to get up to a foot of snow.
While significant snowfall is predicted downstate, the latest models show the storm largely bypassing Chicago.
The storm’s exact path is still subject to change and it remains possible that the system could track further north.
As of now, the NWS predicts Chicago could see some snowfall Sunday evening with a 60% chance of precipitation.
Snowfall could continue into the Monday morning commute, with the NWS predicting a 30% chance of precipitation before noon.
