Chicago just got a little more magical—the city’s first-ever permanent Harry Potter Shop has opened its doors at 676 N. Michigan Avenue, bringing the wizarding world to life on the Magnificent Mile.
City officials and staff cut the ribbon on the shop early Thursday morning, as hundreds of fans lined up along Michigan Avenue for a first look at the sprawling storefront.
An immersive experience
The sprawling storefront offers an immersive experience transcending the traditional retail mold, complete with a wide selection of merchandise from the beloved book series and cinematic universe.
Upon first stepping in, the shop greets guests with a moving mermaid-stained glass window, a reference to the window in the Prefects’ bathroom at Hogwarts.
The store’s interior channels key elements of the book series, with a Goblet of Fire centerpiece, suspended broomstick decorations, and a shimmering Golden Egg at the front of the store.
What’s in store
Fans can explore a massive inventory of themed apparel, plush toys, wands, confections, jewelry, and exclusive Chicago-themed collectibles.
Additionally, the store boasts the largest Butterbeer Bar in the Midwest, designed in the style of a Chicago speakeasy.
Customers can enjoy the iconic sweet drink along with Butterbeer ice cream, themed cookies and cakes, and Chicago-style butterscotch popcorn.
A star-studded opening
Harry Potter alum Tom Felton, who starred as Draco Malfoy in the original films, paid a visit to the Harry Potter Shop Chicago the day before the opening.
Felton expressed his excitement for the store’s debut, encouraging fans to come out and experience the magic for themselves.
The actor told Secret Chicago:
It’s more than a shop man…it’s a proper experience. I feel like I’ve stepped back in time to my Hogwarts days…No one will be disappointed, I promise you that!
Chicago and the world of Harry Potter—a perfect match
The Chicago store is the third official Harry Potter Shop in the world, joining outposts in New York and London.
“We are delighted to be bringing this store to Chicagoland! With the incredible success of the New York flagship store, bringing the Harry Potter world to life on Michigan Avenue was an absolute must,” said Karl Durrant, Senior Vice President, Warner Bros. Discovery Retail Experiences.
“From the shop’s design to exclusive merchandise and a speakeasy-inspired Butterbeer Bar, Harry Potter Shop Chicago is infused with nods to the city’s rich history and unique culture, giving fans a one-of-a-kind experience and unforgettable connection to the wizarding world.”
The Harry Potter Shop Chicago is open now from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday-Sunday.
