A small pizzeria, once recognized as the best pizza in the country before unexpectedly closing its doors, is now back—and many people don’t even know about it.
There was an uproar of sadness when Great Lake Pizza closed its doors in 2013 after five years of operation.
The pizzeria drew long lines and received national acclaim from GQ, even attracting celebrity customers like Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
Yet, when the husband-and-wife-run shop declined to renew their lease for the 14-seat storefront, it was gone forever.

Great Lake Pizza reopening in Chicago
Now, more than a decade later, the couple behind Great Lake Pizza has opened a new venture in Andersonville, just two blocks away from their former location on Balmoral Avenue.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the restaurant quietly reopened last week with no announcement on social media or even a website—only a small “open” sign in the front window to indicate that it’s back in business.
Address: 1476 W. Berwyn Ave
Hours: TBD, but are likely 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
