Deadheads in Chicago have reason to celebrate—a new Grateful Dead-inspired concert venue and restaurant is opening in Fulton Market this month.
Dubbed one of the most anticipated local restaurant openings of 2025 by Eater, Garcia’s Chicago will honor the life and legacy of late Grateful Dead co-founder Jerry Garcia with live music, world-class food and drinks, and a community-driven atmosphere.
The venue-eatery hybrid is a collaboration between the Garcia family, music entrepreneur Peter Shapiro, and music media company Dayglo Presents.

Garcia’s will feature a 300-capacity concert space showcasing jazz, world music, jam bands, and bluegrass acts.
The star-studded lineup includes acts like Grahame Lesh & Friends feat. Daniel Donato, Blind Boys of Alabama, Grace Potter, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
Chef Ivy Carthen’s food menu draws from Garcia’s cultural roots, blending Spanish flavors with American comfort food for a “Spain-meets-San Francisco” theme.
A first-rate beverage program will complement the dishes, offering craft cocktails, zero-proof options, and a curated selection of premium wines and beers.

“Our venue reflects the things that Jerry loved—his connection to tradition, his spirit of exploration, and his appreciation for good, honest experiences,” Shapiro said in a statement.
“This is a place where Jerry’s essence is felt…It’s about celebrating the man behind the music in a space that honors his spirit with respect, thoughtfulness, and creativity.”
Garcia’s will open its doors on Friday, March 21, at 1001 W. Washington Boulevard. Click here to stay up to date on the opening and learn more information.
