Galena may have been established in the 19th century, but it remains the place to head to for a weekend escape from Chicago. The charming town is known for its live music, signature restaurants, and rustic restaurants, among many of its hidden gems. However, there’s one experience you might not have considered: a hot air balloon ride.
Every summer, Galena offers hot air balloon flights seven days a week, allowing you to drift above the landscapes of Jo Daviess County and the Galena countryside. From your vantage point at 3,000 feet, you can take in stunning views of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
And there is one special event that has tourists returning every summer—the Great Galena Balloon Race.
See the Great Galena Balloon Race this weekend
It remains a beloved Galena Country summer tradition, with the sky filling with colorful hot air balloons, live music, and family-friendly fun, all while raising funds for charity.
This annual event takes place on the third weekend in June, which is this weekend, at the North Course Driving Range at Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa.
Where do the hot air balloon flights originate from?
The flights take off from Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa, located six miles outside of Galena, Illinois.
How long are balloon flights and how much do they cost?
Flights cost $250 per person and last about 45 minutes to one hour. You can purchase tickets here.
If you can’t ride this weekend—don’t worry! They have flights throughout the summer.
