Beginning this month, U.S. residents can order free COVID-19 testing kits straight to their doorstep through a new federal program.
According to the Associated Press, U.S. households will be eligible for up to four at-home nasal swab tests through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The HHS has not set an exact date for when orders can begin, but the USPS site states the program will open in late September.
An agency spokesperson told the AP that the tests will be able to detect recent strains of the virus and be made available in time for the holiday season.
News of the mail-order testing kits comes just weeks after federal agencies approved an updated COVID-19 vaccine to target recent viral strains. The CDC recommends persons aged six years and older receive the updated vaccine.
