Frankenstein on Trial in Chicago: a newly reworked script with higher stakes and tougher choices
When the convicted is a sentient creation, guilt no longer sits neatly with one person. As Dr Victor Frankenstein takes to the stand, the courtroom becomes a mirror. It reflects not just the scientist’s choices, but our own: does guilt rest with the creator, the creation, or both—and are we responsible for the creations that outgrow us? The experience feels less like a historical courtroom drama and more like a dystopian dilemma that resonates deeply in the modern age of AI.
This latest script rework raises the tension for everyone in the room. For the jurors, the stakes feel particularly high because a controversial penalty is on the table: Neurological Dissolution Therapy (NDT). For the scientist, a guilty verdict doesn’t just mean time behind bars, but a complete erasure of his intellect, and with it, his sense of self, too. Testimonies from the Creature tilt the jury’s sense of right and wrong and the lawyers’ cross‑examinations leave a single, chilling question hanging in the air: who is the real monster in the room?
