Every Chicagoan will likely recognize the name Frank Lloyd Wright, who is historically regarded as one of the most influential architects, profoundly impacting the city’s architecture.
During his time in the city, Wright developed his signature Prairie School style. While he developed numerous buildings throughout Chicago and its suburbs, including Oak Park, he is drawing attention in Season 4 of The Bear.
The episode begins with Carmy arriving at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Oak Park home and studio. In a scene, Carmy examines Wright’s signature elements: the barrel-vaulted ceiling of the playroom, the studio’s stained glass skylights, and the home’s antique stove.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Oak Park home
Given Wright’s legacy and enduring popularity, it’s hardly surprising that he continues to be referenced, especially in The Bear. According to the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust, Wright arrived in Chicago in 1887 and built a shingle-style house two years later when he was just 22 years old.
This house served as his primary residence for the next two decades. In 1898, the renowned architect added a studio wing, where he created some of his most famous designs.
The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust currently offers various tours, including the Wright Around Oak Park tour, which begins at his Home and Studio.
