An Australian production company called Beyond Cinema is bringing their aquatic theater to Chicago for one week only.
Beyond Cinema is making a splash with their news of shipping their floating theater experience across the pond to North America just in time to catch summer’s last heat wave.
With indoor theaters still on hold, production companies across the nation are coming to the rescue of eager cinephiles with series after series of drive-in theater experiences. Beyond Cinema, however, is kicking it up a knot with their floating cinema.
“Floating Cinema is back, but this time with a twist! This unique cinema is coming to Chicago on 9th September for one week only,” the organization wrote on their event page.
The pricing and location of their floating theater have yet to be revealed, but says that it will feature from 12 – 24 mini boats capable of fitting groups of 8 in each. To ensure proper social distancing, and that friends and families are seated with one another, the company requires groups to get tickets for the whole boat.
The cinema will screen a mix of “golden oldies and new releases” which they will officially announce once the tickets go on sale — fingers crossed for Jaws. Popcorn will be free for all attendants with the option of purchasing classic movie theater snacks and drinks upon arrival.
Floating Cinema will dock in Chicago from Wednesday, September 9 — Sunday, September 13. At this moment, tickets are not available although you can pre-register for when those tickets finally go on sale.
If you’re one to get sea sick, you can check out some of the amazing drive-in theaters in Chicago at Soldier Field and Lincoln Yards.
