Chicago is in the grips of a brutal heatwave—and a cool-down could still be a long way away. Temperatures will remain in the 90s for much of this week, with the chance for some severe storms as the heat drags on.
Thunderstorms possible midweek
The high Monday reached a sweltering 97 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. An extreme heat warning is in effect for Cook County until midnight Monday.
The heat will stick around Tuesday for a high of 90 degrees. Showers and storms are likely Tuesday night, with temperatures dropping to a low of 68 degrees. The NWS predicts a 60% chance of precipitation.

Wednesday will see a brief drop in temps, for a high of 83 degrees with additional showers possible. Thursday’s high will climb back up to 90 degrees. Heading into the weekend, temperatures will hover in the high 80s Friday through Sunday.
In short, it’s going to be a hot, stormy week in Chicago. Be sure to cool off by the lake if you have a free moment, and keep an umbrella handy!
