This big project will be led by Virtue Chef Erick Williams, the principal behind Bronzeville Corridor LLC as the development team sets out to bring a series of condos, stores, and more to 47th Street.
With plans for 30 condos, and retail between St. Lawrence and Forestville avenues, the team behind the LLC plans to offer more details on the project at a community meeting later this month.
Here’s what we know so far:
SGW Architecture and Design is in charge of the design with the current proposal planning to build 5 four-story buildings, with 6 three-story 1,550 square feet bedroom condos complete with balconies and ground-floor commercial space. There would be 5 parking spaces per condo and 1 ADA-accessible space inside the building.
The project will be done in phases after the team gets permission from the city. During construction, they want to build a wall along South St. Lawrence and Forestville in hopes of keeping the parking space available.
As for pricing, they don’t have a current estimate but plan to follow the market. Right now in the area, condos are $200,000+.
More about the projects in the area:
The Bronzeville Corridor project is coming along with a recent upswing in Bronzeville developments like the UChicago Health Clinic and the Northwestern Medicine clinic, along with a Two Fish Crab Shack expansion led by restaurant owner Yasmin Curtis that includes housing and a rooftop cafe.
After the local Walmart closed, the area is now considered a food desert again but Williams and the team want to change that by creating restaurants and retail space with this new project, adding two end buildings (at 25,000 square feet) and three middle units (at 13,00 square feet).
The team wants to fill the spaces with black-owned companies, shops, and restaurants. In particular, the team is looking for salons, clothing companies, and markets to take advantage of the space with details on selling or leasing still up in the air.
We’ll keep you updated as the build progresses!
