Did you ever think you would call the CTA one of Chicago’s hottest music venues? Despite the disappointment of the canceled rave event on the CTA last month, there’s still a chance to experience live DJ sets during your commute into the city.
The CTA has just announced the return of AESOP for another season, promising to bring captivating live DJ sets to the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line station. This year’s programming schedule will feature three days of real-time performances by various talented local disc jockey (DJ) artists, running through November 1st.
The CTA’s public art collection has grown substantially over the last decade, with the number of permanent works of art nearly doubling to approximately 90. In addition to the permanent installations, the CTA also hosts numerous temporary art installations across its eight rail lines and multiple bus facilities.
CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. said:
It’s exciting to have DJ Ayana Contreras remain connected to the program, serving as creative director while bringing in other local DJs to provide weekly performances and showcase their talents.
What is AESOP?
AESOP (An Extended Song of Our People) is an interactive public art installation featuring a DJ booth created by Chicago artist Theaster Gates. The project is the first known broadcast studio and DJ booth designed by an artist in a transit facility.
When can I catch the DJ sets?
You can dance to the beats on these days: Mondays (7-10 a.m.), Fridays (3-6 p.m.), and Wednesdays (3-6 p.m.). This music season will run through Friday, November 1, except for Monday, September 2 (Labor Day).
Where is it taking place?
It will be happening at the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line station.
