Although the sun is shining and there are no clouds in the sky, it may not be wise to head straight into the water—especially in the Chicago area. Several beaches in the Chicago suburbs are experiencing contamination and elevated bacterial levels, prompting warnings against swimming.
Do not go into the water at these 3 Cook and Lake County beaches
According to NBC Chicago, Elder Park Beach in Winnetka has been closed to swimming due to a contamination advisory.
In Lake County, Rosewood Beach in Highland Park is also closed for swimming because of high bacteria levels, as is the popular Illinois Beach State Park Resort Beach in Zion.
The Park District of Highland Park issued the advisory at around 9:30 a.m. this morning, posting on social media
The Rosewood Beach Swimming area is closed today, June 23, due to high bacteria. While swimming is not permitted, the beach remains open.
The Lake County Health Department collects water quality samples from Lake Michigan beaches four times a week and from inland lakes twice a month.
