On the back of Chicago being recognized as the best big city in the United States earlier this month, Condé Nast Traveler has again heaped praise on the Windy City identifying it as the home to not 1 but 4 of the best hotels on the planet.
Now in its 36th iteration, over 525,000 people weighed in on Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards this year seeking out the best of the best in everything in the travel industry “from the best hotels in the world to the top airlines, cruises, and islands.”
After The Peninsula Chicago tied for second best hotel in the world last month, in a worldwide ranking carried out by French-based La Liste it was again recognized as one of the top 10 hotels on the planet by Condé Nast Traveler.
It was named one of the best hotels in the world in the annual survey in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 and now returns to the list ranking 9th best in the world.
“This high-rise hotel might be home to the city’s best-kept secret: a sprawling, 80-foot pool some 19 floors up, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a view you can’t peel your eyes from,” wrote Condé Nast Traveler.
“You could easily spend all day there in unperturbed bliss—block off a whole day to alternate between spa treatments and dips in the pool” it continued before going on to praise the guest rooms being more spacious than a Chicago apartment and the intuitive technology at Peninsula Hotels.
One place behind The Peninsula Chicago in number 10 was none other than LondonHouse Chicago. Situated in a landmark building overlooking the Magnificent Mile and the Chicago River, Condé Nast Traveler described the hotel as being “all about its views” from its iconic rooftop bar but also drew on its stunning interior.
“The gold coffered ceiling of the ground floor lobby makes a stunning first impression,” it wrote, “but the best rooms—the Vista rooms—are in a glass addition featuring floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river and the bridges that vault over it.”
In 21st and 49th respectively were Waldorf Astoria Chicago, which Condé Nast praised for its opulence, and Four Seasons Hotel Chicago which was described as “tranquil and refined” towering over Lake Michigan with “stellar skyline views.”
While places like New York, London, Paris, Doha, and Venice all had multiple hotels nominated, Chicago had more than any other on the planet with its grand total of 4 hotels making it into the 50 best hotels in the world.
It was Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs that was placed at number 1 on the list followed by The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas as the runner-up.View the full The Best Hotels in the World: 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards list.
