The pop up restaurant will serve “hate free” chicken sandwiches at Lost Lake tiki bar.
For two days, starting tomorrow, June 28, pop up spin-off restaurant, Chick-feel-gay will be serving chicken sandwiches and more in an effort to raise efforts and funds for Brave Space Alliance.
“In place of parades and party’s this year we instead are presented the incredibly important opportunity to take this time to evaluate the state of the world so that we may see where we have been and determine where we would like to be,” wrote organizer, Dani Kaplan, in an Instagram post.
“We are still here to offer a lite hearted pun in the face of oppression. We are still here to provide a delicious chicken sandwich and waffle fries, free of hatred and bigotry. And we are still here to raise awareness and funds for an incredible organization @bravespacealliance.”
The pop will serve chicken sandwiches, waffles fries, “chick-feel-gay sauce”, and hard lemonade cocktails from 11 am – 2pm on Sunday, and from 4 pm – 6 pm on Monday at Lost Lake cocktail bar in Logan Square.
Proceeds from the pop will go toward Brave Space Alliance. As per their website, the organization is a “Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ individuals on the South and West sides of the city.”
The pop up made its debut last year at Lost Lake on Sunday, June 30 in to allow customers to “eat a delicious chicken sandwich and waffle fries without supporting the spread of hatred and bigotry,” according to their Instagram post.
Although many of the city’s widely beloved Pride events have either been canceled or gone virtual, you can still celebrate your colors at today’s festivities at Navy Pier! Today, June 27, Navy Pier will be holding its own Pride celebration featuring public art, live music performances, on-site resources and more. The “free and safe” all-day event is set to take place on Saturday starting at 1 pm until 10 pm.
