Chicago’s Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) is bringing back its “You Name a Snow Plow” contest by popular demand this winter.
Here’s all the details and how to enter!
You Name a Snow Plow 2025-26
The fourth edition of the competition encourages Chicagoans to submit their silliest names for the city’s snow plow fleet.
The two-phase contest will culminate with residents voting for their top six entries, according to the DSS.
In the end, the DSS will assign the six names with the most votes to one snow plow in each of Chicago’s six snow districts.

Additionally, the winter 2025-26 winners will join a list of 19 voter-approved names from previous years, including the following:
- Jean Baptiste Point du Shovel
- Skilling It
- CTRL-SALT-DELETE
- Casimir Plowaski
- Da Plow
- Sears Plower
“The snowplow naming contest is a crowd favorite, and we are as excited as ever to see the creativity and Chicago pride on display with this year’s submissions,” said DSS Commissioner Cole Stallard.
“This is a great opportunity to engage with the community and showcase the hard work of the City staff in clearing snow and ice from the roads.”
