It’s been an unseasonably chilly May in Chicago, with temperatures hovering about 10 degrees below average for the past few weeks.
The gloomy skies and autumn-like chill have many of us wondering: When will it finally start to feel like summer in Chicago? Here’s the good news—warmer weather is on the horizon.
Weekend warm up on the way
The cooler temps will linger through the rest of the workweek, with scattered showers Wednesday night and a high of just 65°F on Thursday according to the National Weather Service.
By Friday, things will start to shift, with a high near 78°F—finally bringing some seasonal relief. Thunderstorms are possible Friday night, so keep an umbrella handy.
Saturday and Sunday will cool off slightly, with highs in the mid to upper 60s and mostly clear skies.
Major warm up in store next week
Next week is when the real summer vibes arrive. Monday is expected to reach a balmy 86°F, followed by 83°F and sunshine on Tuesday.
Could next week be the turning point for summer weather in Chicago? We’ve got our fingers crossed!
