It’s been a cooler-than-average June in Chicago so far—but that’s about to change. The Windy City is gearing up for a major heatwave following a round of midweek thunderstorms.
Storms on the way
According to the National Weather Service, Monday will bring dry conditions with a high near 86°F. But the sunshine won’t stick around for long. Storms are expected to move in Tuesday afternoon, after 4 p.m., with temperatures climbing to a hot 90°F.
Rain chances increase on Wednesday, with scattered storms likely throughout the day and a 70% chance of precipitation overall.
Sunny Juneteenth holiday and weekend ahead
The skies will clear just in time for the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, with sunny weather and a high near 83°F. Friday will stay mostly sunny as well, with temps in the mid-80s.
By the weekend, things really heat up—Saturday and Sunday are forecast to bring highs of 92°F and 95°F, along with abundant sunshine.
So break out the SPF and plan your lakefront escape—Chicago, it’s going to be a scorcher.
