If you live in Chicago you’re probably scratching your head and wondering how it can be May when it’s still this cold.
The Windy City is in the midst of a prolonged stretch of below-average daily highs—but warmer temperatures are on the horizon.
Here’s a breakdown of the forecast.
Below average highs, rain this weekend

Unfortunately for those of us with a typical 9-5 weekday schedule, this weekend in Chicago will be a chilly and rainy one.
Chicago will see cloudy conditions and a high of just 45 degrees Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Saturday will see some improvement with sunny skies, but the high will only reach 48 degrees, nearly ten degrees below average according to NWS data.
Come Sunday, expect a 20% chance of showers and wind gusts up to 25mph.
70+ degrees Monday

The weather will do a 180 on Monday, for a high of 71 degrees. A thunderstorm is also possible after 1 p.m.
But as quickly as the temps will rise, they’ll plummet again, for a high of only 58 degrees Tuesday.
Daily highs will linger in the mid to upper 50s into the middle of next week.
So there you have it Chicago—we’ll get a short reprieve from the chilly temperatures on Monday so be sure to get outside and make the most of it.
