Thanksgiving dinner is being served up with a side of snowfall in Chicago this year!
Early predictions from the National Weather Service (NWS) show a system of wintry weather making a beeline for the Windy City immediately following the holiday later this week.
Here’s precisely when the snow could hit and how much we may get.
Mid-week temperature drop to bring freezing Thanksgiving day

Chicagoans woke up to relatively mild temperatures Monday morning, but the temperate weather won’t stick around long.
A mid-week bout of rainfall will give way to a drastic temperature drop throughout the region, followed by the chance for snow.
Periods of rainfall are possible Monday night into Tuesday, with daily highs in the mid to low 50s, according to the NWS. Dreary conditions will continue throughout the day Tuesday, with a 40% chance of rain after noon.
Come Wednesday, the skies will clear while the thermostat will take a steep dive, for a daily high of only 38 degrees.
The high for Thanksgiving Day will top out at 35 degrees, while the low will plummet to a frigid 18 degrees.
Chicago poised for post-Thanksgiving snow storm

Friday is when conditions will take a turn for the snowier. The day’s high will barely climb over the freezing mark to 33 degrees, before precipitation arrives overnight.
The NWS predicts a 50% chance of snow Friday night into Saturday, with exact accumulation totals still unclear.
The potential for snow will linger throughout the weekend, with equivalent chances of snowfall Saturday night into Sunday.
Highs will hover around freezing for the entirety of the weekend, thanks to the polar vortex phenomenon.
All in all, it’s going to be a wintry holiday weekend in Chicago. Be sure to bundle up before hitting the Christkindlmarket or other downtown festivities with the family!
