If you’ve ever felt that world-class orchestral music was hidden behind velvet ropes, this is your chance to step behind it. This spring, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the CSO’s prestigious training ensemble, is stepping out onto the street and making the city itself a stage. Through their Civic in the Community initiative, they’re coming to Chicago’s libraries, parks, and schools.
From Copland to Contemporary
The energy is electric this season! On March 29, the full orchestra travels to Wentz Concert Hall for a breathtaking performance of Copland’s Third Symphony. Under the baton of Carlos Miguel Prieto, you’ll hear the soul-stirring Fanfare for the Common Man in a space that feels intimate and alive.
Want more live classical music?
Candlelight concerts in Chicago bring thousands of candles, surrounding beautiful performances by string quartets to venues like Wentz Concert Hall. These talented musicians pay tribute to both classical music and modern greats.
The Civic String Quartets are popping up across the city from April 2 through mid-May. Whether it’s the atmospheric works of Debussy or the whimsical melodies of Joe Hisaishi, these smaller sets are the perfect gateway for curious ears.
Music with a Mission
The most poignant moment of the season arrives on April 26 with the Notes for Peace Reunion. Civic Fellows collaborate with families from Purpose Over Painto perform original songs of tribute for children lost to gun violence. It’s a powerful, healing reminder that music is a tool for peace. These events are free, but they fill up fast! You can find the full lineup and reserve tickets on the website.
