Chicago is currently grappling with a brutal cold snap thanks to the familiar polar vortex phenomenon—and now snow is on the way too!
A system of wintry weather is set to move through Tuesday night. Here’s a look at the timeline and how much of the white stuff we’ll get.
Multiple inches of accumulation possible tonight

Snow will move in late Tuesday, according to predictions from the National Weather Service, with the highest chance after midnight.
The NWS estimates an 80% chance of precipitation and accumulation of up to 2 inches.
Wind gusts as high as 20 mph are also possible.
Snow showers will linger into Wednesday morning with a 40% chance of precipitation before noon, and a 60% chance in the evening. Additional accumulation of less than an inch is possible.

Temperatures will hover in the single digits and teens for much of the week, and additional snow could hit Saturday night.
