Chicago has held Orkin Pest Control’s title of the Rattiest City in America for 10 years, but all of that could soon change under a new pilot program.
The Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Arizona-based company Senestech to launch a new rodent abatement method in Chicago: rat birth control.
The program will involve installing rat bait boxes equipped with “Evolve” in alleyways around Wicker Park and Bucktown’s commercial throughways, according to multiple reports.
According to a report from ABC, the rat birth control serves as an alternative to rat poison, which can endanger other wildlife, putting household pets and the environment at risk.
New York City is currently testing a similar method to control its rat population.
