The annual tradition is back on Sunday, March 1, at North Avenue Beach, with proceeds going towards Special Olympics Illinois.
Organizer Special Children’s Charities has set a goal of $2 million for this year’s plunge.
The 2025 plunge saw a turnout of 4,800 participants, for a total of $1.8 million raised, according to CBS Chicago.
This year, organizers are anticipating a turnout of 5,000 plungers.

Adult participants are required to pledge a minimum of $200, while participants 17 years and younger can take the plunge for a donation of $100.
Interested parties can create a team, join an existing one, or register on an individual basis.
