Summer pool season in the Windy City is going into overtime.
The Chicago Park District (CPD) has announced select public pools will remain open through Labor Day.
Here’s everything to know.
Pools, splash pads to remain open through Labor Day
The CPD announced Tuesday that it will extend standard open season at 20 city pools through Labor Day, Monday, September 7.
Thirteen of the pools impacted by the extended schedule are in neighborhoods deemed particularly vulnerable to extreme heat, according to the CPD.
The extended season includes the following pools:
- Riis Pool
- Portage Pool – Outdoor
- Palmer Pool
- Washington Pool
- Foster Pool
- Ellis Park Pool
All 23 swimming beaches will also remain open through Labor Day, including the Humboldt Park beach.
Additionally, more than 200 aquatic play features like fountains and splash pads will operate until Wednesday, September 30.
“As Chicago experiences more frequent and intense periods of extreme heat, access to public pools is more than recreation—it’s an important public health resource,” said CPD leader Carlos Ramirez-Rosa in a statement.
