It’s been a suspiciously quiet couple of weeks in Chicago since old man winter dumped 17 inches of snow before the official start of the season.
Following an unseasonably warm Christmas Day, Windy City residents might be wondering: when is the next big snow?
Here’s what the long-term forecast says!
January weather outlook

If you were hoping that the early season blizzard would be the end of snowfall in Chicago for the 2025-26 winter season, we’ve got some bad news.
If current predictions are any indication, January is likely to be a frigid and snowy month in the Windy City.
Data from Accuweather shows multiple chances for snow next month, with highs in the 20s and 30s most days.
The following days could bring significant snowfall, according to the forecast:
- Tuesday, January 6
- Sunday, January 11
- Thursday, January 15
- Tuesday, January 20
These are just predictions, so its entirely possible that additional snowfall could pop up in the forecast as the month carries on.
In short, winter in Chicago is officially here, and we’ve got a long, cold couple of months ahead of us.
