The Windy City is leading the charge when it comes to withstanding climate change.
Chicago is the most climate resilient city in the world, according to a new study from artificial intelligence company AlphaGeo.
Here’s a breakdown of the data and what separates Chicago from the rest of the globe.
Chicago ranks for low hazard exposure, infrastructure development

Chicago’s climate resilience ranking was driven by a low risk of exposure to a swath of environmental hazards like drought, wildfires, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
AlphaGeo’s study notes that Chicago faces limited risk of tropical and coastal threats including hurricanes and flooding.
Additionally, AlphaGeo’s study took into account Chicago’s adaptability to climate threats, noting that the Windy City benefits from “robust urban infrastructure.”

Climate-positive aspects of Chicago include abundant lakefront greenspace, electric vehicle resources, and even bike-friendly roadways.
Chicago was the only U.S. city to make the top ten of the study, alongside cities including Nairobi (Kenya), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Melbourne (Australia).
