The Illinois Secretary of State’s office has officially opened a new two-story DMV center in the Loop at 125 W. Monroe St.
The “state-of-the-art” facility replaces the former downtown DMV at 160 N La Salle Dr., bringing the full array of DMV services together under one roof for the first time, according to a release.
Dubbed the Flagship Center, the new DMV features modernized amenities including a Fast-Lane kiosk, single-counter vehicle and driver services, and additional department services.
The center covers 24,000 square feet of space, nearly five times the size of the former DMV location.
With a larger footprint, the Secretary of State’s Office hopes to boost efficiency and reduce wait times, while offering services not available at other local DMV locations.

“Our new Flagship Center showcases the efficiencies generated by all our modernization initiatives working in unison. It offers a wide array of services from several of our departments, all at one convenient location in Chicago’s Loop,” said Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias in a statement.
“Our continued effort to modernize the office allows us to not only create efficiencies, but also to reimagine the services we can provide and come up with innovative ways to meet customer’s [sic] needs, getting them in and out the door quickly.”
The Flagship Center will offer both walk-in and appointment services from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Learn more information and schedule your appointment here.
