A new café and event space will take over a former Chicago firehouse in Rogers Park.
Organizers submitted the project to the city Department of Planning and Development (DPD) in 2025 as part of an open call for proposals to adaptively reuse the property, which has sat vacant since 2009.
The redevelopment will transform the 111-year-old building at 1721-23 W. Greenleaf Ave. into a 2,000-square-foot ground level coffeehouse.

An additional 4,000 square feet of event and office space will occupy the upper floors.
“This thoughtful proposal will preserve a beautiful building with new uses that reinforce its role as a community anchor while complementing pedestrian-oriented retail activity on nearby Clark Street,” said DPD Ciere Commissioner.
