When it comes to bars, everyone has their opinion of what makes a bar a great bar—whether it’s because they’re leaning toward upscale establishments or cozy neighborhood spots. Some bars manage to rise above the rest, cementing their places as cherished favorites.
Recently, North America’s 50 Best Bars 2026 unveiled its extended rankings, highlighting an impressive array of drinking establishments.
According to the organization, four Chicago bars made the list of the region’s 50 best bars.
At the forefront of the list is Kumiko, ranked number 11. This cocktail bar is known for intertwining Japanese and American cocktail influences, offering artistic presentations and exceptional service rooted in the traditional Japanese concept of omotenashi.
Following closely is Best Intentions, ranked 16. Don’t be misled by its “fancy cocktail bar” sign—this beloved Logan Square spot has been a retreat for patrons for years, providing them with expertly crafted” no-frills drinks” in a laid-back atmosphere.

Next in line is the whimsical Gus’ Sip & Dip, which has made its first-time entry at number 27.
This bar embraces a playful, nostalgic approach to the drinking experience, offering a menu of 30 creatively reimagined classic cocktails, each available for a mere $12. The inviting ambiance and inventive drinks make it a delightful spot for a casual night out.
Completing the list of Chicago spots is Bisous, which ranks 30th. Located in Fulton Market, this bar draws inspiration from the romantic allure of 1960s Paris. However, they are known for their extensive martini list, featuring lesser-known variations and patrons to sip options beyond the classic.
