Candlelight presents a sensational Valentine’s Day concert that would have been approved by the goddess Aphrodite herself. Although romantic love as we understand it today wasn’t always the central focus in ancient times, it did have different meanings based on cultural norms. Ancient Greece had Eros, whose personality was either pleasantly playful or surprisingly wicked. Yet, the most prized love was philia, meaning affectionate love and friendship, whereas the Egyptians believed in everlasting passionate love that persisted in the afterlife.
Whatever love means to you today, this February 14 we are celebrating the complex feeling at Cafe Brauer, with classical renditions of the most romantic songs ever written. They hit the nail on the head about what a roller coaster of emotions it can be. From Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet (Fantasy Overture)” to “Love Story” by Taylor Swift and “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal, these tunes really know how to tug at the heartstrings. What’s more, nothing says romance like thousands of candles, dancing to the melodies of timeless songs and compositions written about passion, desire, devotion and friendship.
Valentine’s Day Special ft. “Romeo and Juliet” and More
Evocative melodies, emotionally charged lyrics and rows and rows of candles await this season at Cafe Brauer thanks to the Candlelight Valentine’s Day special.
Hear timeless melodies that create a powerful sense of passion and longing and connect with audiences on a personal level. Think of songs in the likes of “And I Love Her” and “All You Need is Love” by The Beatles, the ukulele-driven “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole and “Kiss from a Rose” by the soulful Seal.
Although the concept of love has changed through time with friendships and romantic love being prioritized more, this mysterious feeling remains a strong drive in our lives. So, why not give it a proper shout out and celebrate it in a breathtaking setting surrounded by thousands of twinkling candles?
The Candlelight Valentine’s Day special takes place at Cafe Brauer this romantic season. There are two back-to-back performances taking place on the evening, at 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm, giving you plenty of time to opt for an early or post-show dinner.
