People living with or caring for someone with schizophrenia know firsthand how difficult the day-
to-day can be, and how overwhelming it can feel navigating alone the stigma and isolation often
associated with the condition. That’s why finding connection with others who understand the
journey is so important.
If you’re seeking a supportive space to connect with others living with schizophrenia or who have
a connection to the community, a free event on July 26 is providing just that.

What is happening at the event?
Hosted and sponsored by Bristol Myers Squibb, the interactive event will feature a social hour
with games and light snacks, followed by a hands-on cooking class led by Chicago-native chef
Lamar Moore, where attendees will be invited to learn a recipe alongside him. After the class, Dr.
Joanne Parks will join Lamar to facilitate an open, honest conversation over dinner. Everyone is
welcome to share their own experiences, if feeling comfortable to do so, while listening and
supporting one another.
Who can attend the event?
This event is open to all members of the schizophrenia community – whether you live with, love, or care for someone who has schizophrenia. It’s an opportunity to meet new people and feel supported, heard, and less alone.

What other details do I need to know?
The event will take place on Sunday, July 26, at 3 p.m. at The Chopping Block (4747 N Lincoln, 60625). It is a completely free event, but registration is required and spaces are highly limited. Don’t miss out on this afternoon of cooking, conversation and connection designed for people living with schizophrenia, care partners and loved ones.
