Chicagoans have enjoyed some mild temperatures in recent weeks, but all of that is about to change.
Heavy snow, harsh winds, and even thunder are set to hit the Windy City overnight.
Showers will begin this afternoon and continue into the evening, according to the National Weather Service. A rainy and snowy mix will set in overnight, turning fully to snow after 3 a.m.
Heavy snow is possible at times, with patches of blowing snow possible after 1 a.m., according to the NWS. Accumulations up 3 inches are possible.
Strong winds up to 30 mph are also possible, as well as periods of thunder. A wind advisory is currently in effect for Chicago and the suburbs.
The snowy will begin to taper off around 7 a.m. Thursday morning. Sunny conditions are expected for the remainder of the day, with a high near 41.
