Yesterday was a momentous day in American history: we elected our 46th President, and our first female, Black and South Asian Vice President.
Though of course, it was a long-awaited, historic event the internet didn’t hesitate to find those moments to be EXTRA and it became a very meme-able day in U.S. culture. None more popular than University of Chicago graduate Senator Bernie Sanders, who became a Twitter darling over the past 24 hours because of everything from his attitude to his handmade mittens.

The pose. The mittens. The social distance. pic.twitter.com/kwHH7AzZY8

And THEN, of course, people had to do some photoshopping and plop his nonchalant appearance into countless city backgrounds which has results in a tsunami of mitten-inspired memes around the nation. Bernie has since been traveling around making appearances on all seven continents of the world and Chicago has given its own fair contribution.
Scroll for a good laugh!

Our personal favorite, though, has to be Bernie’s cameo in Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks at the Art Insitute of Chicago…
Lots of #BernieSanders memes being shared right now, but I think the winner (so far) places the Senator into one of my favorite paintings, “Nighthawks” by Edward Hopper. It is on display at the Art Institute of Chicago. pic.twitter.com/I9wfyAVAK7
