There are highways, and then there is Route 66— the iconic “Mother Road” that stretches from Chicago to Santa Monica. Known for its neon lights, vintage motels, and retro diners, this historic route recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. It has become synonymous with Americana, drawing road-trip aficionados from around the world.
And if you’ve been eager to explore the route — without driving yourself — we have good news. Amtrak has organized a 14-day trip through six destinations along Route 66.
The trip starts in Chicago, America’s architectural hub, and ends in celebrity-studded Los Angeles. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a walking tour of historic Albuquerque, ride the Grand Canyon Railway to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, and tour Beverly Hills to see the homes of the most famous stars in Los Angeles.
