If you’re heading to one of multiple outdoor events happening in Chicago this weekend, you’ll want to pack a poncho.
Predictions from the National Weather Service show back-to-back days of heavy rains and hazardous lakefront conditions ahead.
Here’s a breakdown of the forecast and how to stay safe.
Beach hazard statement in effect Friday, torrential rain Saturday and Sunday

A Beach Hazard Statement is in effect Friday until 3 p.m. according to the NWS, with “life threatening” swimming conditions and waves up to 6 feet high expected.
The NWS notes treacherous swimming conditions will persist throughout the weekend after the official hazard warning ends.
Those heading to the lake should exercise added caution, and inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water.

Beach hazards aren’t the only weather concern Chicagoans should be aware of going into the weekend.
Torrential rains are likely for much of the weekend. Saturday’s forecast includes a 100% chance of precipitation, with showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m. and additional rain come nighttime.
Sunday will bring more rain, with showers and thunderstorms mainly before 1 p.m. and a 70% chance of precipitation overall.
