Several Chicagoland movie theaters will host special screenings of the One Direction documentary This Is Us this weekend to honor the late band member Liam Payne.
Payne passed away on October 16 after reportedly falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to CNN.
Payne joined One Direction while competing on the British talent show The X-Factor in 2010, alongside bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. The group disbanded in 2016, with each member, including Payne, going on to pursue solo careers.
This Is Us premiered in 2013 and documents the band’s meteoric rise to fame. For many young adults, One Direction was an integral part of growing up in the early 2010s. The screenings provide a unique opportunity for fans to reflect on Payne’s legacy and relive those memories.
The film will be shown at Gurnee Mills Cinema and Orland Park Cinema at various times this weekend and next week. Orland Park will screen the film throughout the weekend, while Gurnee Mills will show it at varying times into next week.
